Our girls (and boy) insist on sitting on top of their waterers and then pooping in their water. A quick way to solve this is to use a chain or twine to hang something over their waterer. I use old, cracked plastic flowerpots. Anything large will work as long as it’s safe from sharp edges or points that might injure a chicken. They really don’t like the moving target and will not fight it.
