Hatching Praying Mantis

Our little one has been really interested in life cycles and has always had a curiosity for insects. This spring we decided to hatch praying mantis pods to show her how it works and also to have a bunch of pest control in the veggie garden. The ones I ordered sent two pods in a container with a screen on top so we could check it every day. After about three weeks, hatching began. We put a few drops of water on the pods and it seemed they were able to hatch faster and easier. We had a blast releasing them all over our gardens, and they tickle when they crawl up your arm. We’ll be releasing ladybugs in the near future (the real ones, not the Japanese orange pests).
